THE CHARACTER
FULL NAME: Christopher Summers
SERIES/FANDOM: Marvel
AGE: 35
GENDER: Male
SPECIES: Human
SEXUALITY: straight
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Good
JOB ASSIGNMENT: Manager of the Ink Spot
PERSONALITY:
Corsair is a showboat. He's cocky and brash, eager to boast and joke. This makes him seem incredibly arrogant, but that's not really the case. He knows he's human, and that he has large, gaping flaws. He just chooses not to dwell on them, since he feels that repenting after everything he's been through would be somewhat pointless and ridiculous.
Corsair's family is the most important thing to him. Once it was his wife and children, these days it's his lover and his crew. His dedication to them is unrivaled by any other aspect of his personality. He would die for them without a thought. This isn't as much out of love, though, as it is for an abiding fear of losing his family again.
Corsair is a serious man, in private. His bluster is gone when the deals are done and he's just spending time with his friends. He's still deeply wounded from his time in Shi'ar slavery, and the death of his sons and wife are still very much on his mind, though they no longer consume him as they once did.
He's not mopey all the time, though. He's a sharp wit, and eager to joke and laugh with those he's close to. Being serious is necessary, but so is having fun, and he'd rather laugh than cry, these days.
Corsair's mind is always running. No matter what his mood, he's planning the next heist, the next coup, the next piece of harm he can do D'Ken's empire.
HISTORY:
Christopher was born to Philip and Deborah Summers in Jamestown, Virginia. Like all children of military parents (Philip was a pilot in the Air Force), he traveled the world his whole life. This meant that he had to be able to adapt to new situations and new cultures quickly. Though he grew tired of it as a child, when he turned 18, he signed up to join the Air Force as well.
He was a pilot with the Air Force until the day he 'died'. In that time he met a female mechanic while stationed in Brazil. They talked and went out on a couple of dates before she was shipped out. In a fit of spontaneity, Chris asked her to marry him. Without thinking, she laughed and agreed, telling him to mail her the ring later.
At first he wondered if it really was a joke. He panicked for a week or so, wondering what he had got himself into. When a week passed he bought her a beaded ring from a local merchant, and a letter asking her if she'd really meant what she'd said.
The return letter took a month, and was only one three words long. 'Yes, you idiot'.
The planning took a lot of time, though they met anytime they possibly could. It wasn't until Katherine became pregnant with Scott that they were able to settle down and actually get married.
The birth of his first son was a real kick in the pants to the smug airman, and he quickly took a job where he would be able to stay in one place permanently. The pair had reservations about living in Anchorage full time, since neither of them had ever spent much time in one place.
They came to love Alaska in time, and Scott was quickly followed by Alex. Chris felt as though his entire life had been leading up to this perfect moment in his life. He loved his sons, and instilled a love of aviation in them both. Katherine taught them how to fix cars and planes, and Scott even helped a little when the couple decided to rebuild a vintage plane that Chris had saved from being scrapped on a whim.
The plane was functional by the time Alex was three, and the family enjoyed going up in it, to explore the Alaskan wilderness from the air. One such trip turned out to be very ill timed. While coming back from a vacation in Canada, the plane was attacked by a Shi'ar scout ship. There was no chance they could land the plane safely, or even live to try. Without a thought Katherine shoved Scott into a parachute and put Alex in his arms. The boys went tumbling out the door when Chris opened it, and they had hope for a moment that the boys would live.
They weren't able to see much of the boys' descent, however, as their plane was hauled into the spaceship that had fired on them. Corsair and Katherine fought the aliens desperately, not knowing the horrors that awaited them, only suspecting that this was not a good place to be. They couldn't outmatch the armed Shi'ar warriors, and the pair were split.
Chris was sent to the mining pits to do hard labor until he died. In time he made good his escape, his determination to find his wife all encompassing. In time he found his wife in D'Ken's harem. She was visibly pregnant, and for a moment Chris became unhinged by rage. He attacked D'Ken, intent on killing the man who was the leader of the aliens who had done his family so much harm.
In the end, he was restrained and Katherine was disemboweled in front of him, their youngest son strewn on the floor in a pool of his mother's intestines. Chris snapped then, vowing revenge on the Shi'ar, and all that helped them.
He was sent to the slave pits after that, which were on a different planet. It was there than he met Ch'od, Cr'eeee, Raza Longknife, and Hepzibah. When Hepzibah was attacked by a pair of guards, Chris was the first at her side, defending her against the guards. The Starjammers adopted him into their makeshift interspecies family, and when they escaped, he went along.
Wanting to abandon the man who had failed his family so thoroughly, Chris took a different name. He chose Corsair in a less than creative moment, and began to style himself after the pirates of old. He was ruthless and bloodthirsty. If an action hurt the Shi'ar, the Starjammers did it. He was an excellent tactical analyst, and a good leader, despite his single minded hatred.
It took years for him to heal enough to put his hatred aside. While he still worked with single-minded determination against D'Ken, he came to realize that not all Shi'ar were like the ones that had killed his family. He stopped doing missions that would hurt innocent bystanders, and began to focus on more daring missions that would do harm to D'Ken personally. His vendetta would not be forgotten, but he was no longer willing to hurt others to get back at the man he truly hated.
ABILITIES:
Corsair is not a mutant, despite the fact that all of his children are. However, he is in excellent physical condition. He is a skilled navigator both on Earth and in space, and can pilot most aircraft.
He is skilled in the use of all Shi'ar weaponry, especially blasters and energy swords. It wouldn't take him long to figure out their Earthly equivalents.
He also has a full compliment of Air Force training, and extensive tactical ability.
WEAKNESSES:
Corsair has no special abilities. While he is far from frail, he isn't going to beating up anyone he can out-think. He also tends to mistrust anyone outside of his crew unless one of them can vouch for the person, which makes him seem less friendly than he is during personal conversations.
CANON POINT: Prior to the fall of D'Ken, and the knowledge that his sons are alive.
